THE GREAT EXCHANGE

How we the Jews and gentiles laid our unclean hands
Upon the one who knew no sin
Not fully knowing or having the ability to understand
That the sacrificial Lamb was Him

He came to earth clothed in humility
Knowing what he was going to become
On the cross he was rejected by humanity
And from the Godhead itself, God’s only Son

He took the full grunt of humanities identity
And became the very name and being we were
Possessed by the sin of our profanity and insanity
He took on our sinful nature, but held sufferingly pure

He took on the Law and it’s ordinances there
He became our lust and took on our pride
He became condemnation, the curse and the snare
And finally death where he hung there and died

All this so we could be given His name
And be given His nature and image as well
To reconcile man back to God’s glory and fame
So we can boast in the things He does in the world

What other God has done such a feat
Where He became nothing so to Him we can gain
His glorious riches where in Him we’re complete
Where we can abide in His sovereign reign

He is our gardener, our High Priest and King
He came as perfect sacrifice so we may be
Made one in Him so our praises can bring
His testimony to man and of His future glory

He became all things to men so man has no excuse
He has proven to man His faithfulness
His grace freely give; through the Son we’re produced
To the Father, His eternal righteousness
