HEADS AND TAILS

How many times in church has it been said
That “We shouldn’t be the tail but the head”?
Have you ever considered that all along
This kind of paradigm could be wrong?

It’s true God plainly had said to Israel
That they’ll be the head and not the tail
But do you remember who they were?
They were slaves, hard working laborers

God always takes the worst and makes instead
Those that are the tail and into the head
And how often we turn this quote into a farce?
“The last shall be first and the first shall be last”.

Don’t TRY to be last and don’t TRY to be first
That’s simply religious; being bound and cursed
Simply know the truth that a criminal died
Who carried your sin personified

This man who was head, chose to become the tail
His actions speak once again through His travail
Let Him silence our nonsense and the games that we play
For better or for worse, chuck the works away

If some are heads and tails you have to say
Is the game ‘Snakes and Ladder’s’ what humanity plays
The one who gets closer to the hundredth square
Is the one who falls the furthest from there

Is this all chance as the riddle may seem
That some never come first in their dreams?
Just step back and look at the absurdity
When we strive real hard, rather than simply be

That’s why He came and hung with those at the bottom
Everyone’s so self absorbed they’ve completely forgotten
The state of themselves, the lowly and poor
These are things man cannot ignore

And this is what God wants to address
Not the desires of man that live to impress
Those are the rags Jesus spoke badly of
While through His hands He showed love

We think we’re more godly when we try to be first
But God IS our best and GOD is our worst
He’s thrown all the competition out the door
He’s the head and the tail; after and before

He is Alpha and Omega, the first and the last
The least and the greatest, both future and past
If we strive to be different; first or last we will fail!
For God is both the head and the tail!
